Carnival has come early this year, for Easter will be early this year to and Carnival is the time to say goodbye to the luxury of good living before the fasting of Lent.
Along the alleyways, carousing through canals and play-acting in the piazzas, everyone who wants to have fun is dressed in some form of costume, from a simple papier maché mask to the most ornate of regal vestments.
The Doge walks in procession by the Cathedral, the clowns prance by the promenade near the Bridge of Sighs, the Casanovas bow most floridly three rows deep.
All is fun and fantasy in Venice this week!
